Frieze Art Fair, London: Maria Nordin, Mamma Andersson, Jens Fänge, Jockum Nordström, Thomas Broomé, Lisa Jonasson, Peter Köhler & Amy Bennett
We are proud to announce the gallery’s participation at the Frieze Art Fair in London for the ninth consecutive year.
This year we show a solo presentation by Maria Nordin together with works by Mamma Andersson, Jens Fänge, Thomas Broomé, Amy Bennett, Jockum Nordstrom, Peter Köhler and Lisa Jonasson.
Maria Nordin’s new work Conversation Piece is a series of large-scale watercolours of close-up faces painted in a cinematic format. There is a sense of ambivalence in their brittle and sensible appearance, their intense eyes and somewhat grotesque scale. It is an exploration of the intimate and intrusive, the psychologically-charged skin and the power of the gaze. The exhibition is strongly influenced by the medium of film and its ability to completely occupy the mind of the spectator. Maria Nordin mainly works with watercolours in a larger format and animation. Thematically, the works often revolves around the body, skin and the gaze, and how this can be represented by the specific conditions of painting.
Maria Nordin, born 1980 in Linköping, Sweden, lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Stockholm 2005–2010. Her works was presented in a larger solo exhibition at Färgfabriken, Stockholm (2011) when she was awarded the Becker’s Art Award. Other recent exhibitions are Pink Noise at The Studio, London (2012) and In frames at Galleri Magnus Karlsson, Stockholm (2010).
