Thomas Broomé | Low_Res/Hi_Res
Gallery Magnus Karlsson is pleased to announce Thomas Broomé’s first separate exhibition at the gallery. The exhibitions titel LOW_RES / HI_RES (low resolution/high resolution) allude to counterparts which is a common theme in Thomas Broomés work. The exhibition shows drawings, sculptures and a computer game.
MODERNMANTRA is a series of drawings where Thomas Broomé builds interiors with words that the picture is showing. For example is a wall consisting of a repetition of the word “wall” and a table of the word “table”. Broomé’s starting point is images collected from exclusive real estate website on the internet. The repetition of words in these images becomes a sort of mantra for a constructed dreamvision of existence. It also constitutes a tension between text and image, surface and substance.
LOW_RES_MAN is a painted plexiglas sculpture of a natural-sized figure. The costume-clad anonymous man is built of pixels, each of them 1x1x1 cm, and it’s also lit up from the inside. It’s a low resolved male template that has left the internet for the high resolved reality. At a distance the man is perceived correctly but like many of us he can’t endure closer review.
The sculpture LOOKING is in many ways an opposite to LOW_RES_MAN. A small realistic sculpture of painted polymerclay. A tender personal portrait of a woman in a everyday situation.
The exhibition is bound together with the piece STRUCTPONG where counterparts are met in a computer game. A classic Pong-game where the score is replaced with words, and the visitor challenges the computer as well as his own notion of life.
