Biography

Mamma Andersson was born in Luleå, Sweden, in 1962. She lives and works in Stockholm, where she studied at the Royal Institute of Art (1986–1993). Mamma Andersson is one of Sweden's most internationally recognized artists and has exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. She represented Sweden at the Venice Biennale in 2003 and made an extensive presentation as both an artist and curator at the São Paulo Biennale in 2018. Her paintings are included in the collections of institutions such as MoMA, New York; MoCA, Los Angeles; The National Museum, Oslo; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; and Magasin III, Stockholm.

In 2021, she held a large solo exhibition titled Humdrum Days at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. In 2023, she exhibited About Hill with artist Tal R at Malmö Konstmuseum in Sweden, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg in Denmark, and Museum MORE in the Netherlands. She is represented by Gallery Magnus Karlsson, Stockholm, Stephen Friedman Gallery, London and David Zwirner, New York.
